Sankesh Mehta: Restoring Venous Patency Through Mechanical Thrombectomy

Sankesh Mehta, Diagnostic and Interventional Radiologist at MGM Healthcare, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“From scald to stride – A case of DVT thrombectomy!

A 64-year-old female, with a recent history of abdominal wall scald injury and limited ambulation, presented with diffuse swelling of the left lower limb.

Doppler sonography revealed extensive left ilio-femoro-popliteal deep venous thrombosis, with CT venography confirming distal extension up to the left common iliac vein.

Mechanical thromb-aspiration was performed through the left popliteal vein approach using Penumbra’s CAT 8 system, resulting in upto 80% clot clearance. The remaining thrombus burden was tackled successfully with anticoagulation.

Follow-up Doppler at 2 weeks showed complete patency of intraluminal flow.

Patient reported marked symptomatic improvement, with reduced swelling and improved mobility.

The best outcome of all was the patient’s smile on review!

Minimally invasive miracles at MGM Healthcare with Dr. Naren H.”
