From Words to Action: David McIntosh Advocates for Investment in Lifesaving Maternal Care
David McIntosh, Founder and Chair of United Plasma Action, shared a post by Global Anemia and Patient Blood Management onย LinkedIn:
“INVESTMENT NEEDED TO SAVE LIVES !!
Those of us privileged to live in rich countries with highly developed Healthcare systems, this Nigerian news will probably sound outrageously improbable.
An avoidable death in childbirth every 7 minutes … surely not … ?!!?
But, no …. it IS outrageous …. but it’s not improbable. It’s a fact.
Nor is Nigeria alone – many Low and Middle Income Countries have similarly serious problems. The consequent global death rate is astounding – and utterly unnecessary.
Conserted global action is required urgently – not research papers, conferences or the publishing of exhortations – ACTION
Millions of lives can be saved if Low and Middle Income Countries commit themselves to action and International Authorities lend them their support.
INVESTMENT and ongoing FUNDING are the top priorities. With those in place, the rest will be easy. There’s no rocket science here. All the necessary knowledge and experience already exists.
ACTION is all that’s required.”
