Open Lecture: Acute Coronary Syndromes in the Absence of SMURFs: Is Sex the Missing Link?

European Atherosclerosis Society posted on LinkedIn:

”In this Featured Open Lecture, Prof. Gemma Figtree discusses acute coronary syndromes and the absence of standard modifiable risk factors (SMuRFs). It is known that around 25% of heart attack patients have no traditional risk factors; therefore, early detection of plaque would be a game-changer. Women without SMuRFs have the worst outcomes after myocardial infarction. Thus, gaining a deeper understanding of the factors driving susceptibility and resilience is the next major step in preventing disease. ”
