Beverly G. Tchang: Lipid-Lowering Therapy in Women During Pregnancy and Lactation

“Congratulations to all professional societies American College of Cardiology, American Heart Association, National Lipid Association and leaders Roger Blumenthal who brought this new guideline on lipids and disease prevention together!
Officially recognizing an age as young as 30 for potential medical intervention is a huge step in health preservation .
As an advocate of womens health, I implore everyone to read up particularly on Table 20 since:
- Women in their 30s are still of childbearing age
- Pregnancy can be a significant cardiac risk factor
- Statins no longer carry a blackbox warning during pregnancy but still require judicious use “

About 1 in 4 US adults has high LDL-C, raising risk of heart attack and stroke.”
