Emma Lefrancais on Alarmin IL33 and Platelet Biology

Emma Lefrancais, Scientific Researcher at CNRS, shared on LinkedIn:

”I’m delighted to share the publication of Lucie Gelon PhD work, available online at Blood Advances, uncovering a key role for the IL-33/ST2 axis in platelet biology:

“The alarmin Interleukin-33 modulates platelet proteome, function and biogenesis”

Although platelets do not express IL-33, our study shows that IL-33 profoundly shapes their production and function.

We demonstrate that IL-33/ST2 signaling:
• remodels the platelet proteome, enriching inflammatory proteins
• impairs platelet adhesion and thrombus formation when absent
• accelerates platelet production in the lung by promoting megakaryocyte fragmentation within the vasculature
These mechanisms are likely to be particularly relevant during stress and aging, when IL-33–responsive megakaryocyte precursors expand.

Huge congratulations to Lucie Gelon for this great work at IPBS-Toulouse (CNRS-UT3), and many thanks to all co-authors and collaborators, Stéphane Roga, Jean-Philippe Girard, Anne Gonzalez de Peredo and Edith Vidal and Sonia SEVERIN!”
