Filipe Gonçalves: Scientific Progress Depends on More Than Individual Expertise
Filipe Gonçalves, External Expert at the Competent Authority Unit for Substances of Human Origin (SoHO), Directorate-General of Health (Portugal), shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in RPTH, adding:
“I am pleased to share the publication of this article in the field of bleeding disorders. Rather than simply being the result of multidisciplinary collaboration, this work highlights the importance of building bridges with professionals and institutions that share a commitment to advancing diagnosis and clinical research.
Its completion was only possible thanks to external collaborations that enabled specialised coagulation studies, platelet aggregation testing, and genetic analyses, all essential for the comprehensive characterisation of these cases.
Clinical research requires more than scientific knowledge and individual initiative. It also requires institutional structures that facilitate, rather than hinder, access to the necessary resources and expertise.
When these conditions are not available locally, the willingness of colleagues from other institutions to share their knowledge, expertise, and resources can make the difference between an idea that remains unexplored and a scientific contribution that becomes a reality.
My sincere thanks to everyone whose expertise and generosity made this work possible.”
