Platelet SYK Signaling and Cancer Metastasis – JTH
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Luca F. Sándor et al, adding:
“Platelet spleen tyrosine kinase promotes solid tumor metastasis via thromboxane A2 mediated immunosuppression
In mouse models, platelet specific Syk deletion reduced metastatic deposits after melanoma or colorectal cancer cell administration.
The study links platelet SYK signaling to thromboxane A2 release and suppression of CD8plus T cell proliferation and effector function.
Pharmacologic inhibition of SYK or platelet thromboxane production also reduced metastasis in the experimental models.
These findings connect platelet signaling with tumor immune evasion and identify a mechanism for further investigation.
Clinical antimetastatic benefit remains unproven.”
