Laura Girardi Compares US, CT and MRI in Portal Vein Thrombosis
Laura Girardi, Clinical and Research Thrombosis Fellow at The Ottawa Hospital, shared on LinkedIn:
”Out now
First meta-analysis providing pooled sensitivities and specificities of the main non-invasive techniques for diagnosis of portal vein thrombosis (PVT), derived from comparison with gold standard invasive procedures (angiography or surgery/pathology) used as reference.
Ultrasound (US), computed tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) demonstrate comparable accuracy for PVT diagnosis, with high specificity across modalities.
Based on the obtained pooled sensitivities and specificities, we computed three Bayesian models simulating the work-up of PVT in case of a low (1% – abdominal pain), intermediate (15% – liver cirrhosis), or high (30% – hepatocarcinoma) clinical pre-test probability of PVT.

Thanks again to my supervisor Aurelien Delluc for this amazing opportunity!”
