Nirav Dhanesha and LSU Health Shreveport Team Discover Neutrophil Integrin α9 as a Key Target in Subarachnoid Hemorrhage Recovery

Nirav Dhanesha, Assistant Professor at the Louisiana State University, shared an important post on LinkedIn:

“Excited to share our latest research on subarachnoid hemorrhage SAH! Our study in Arteriosclerosis, Thrombosis, and Vascular Biology (ATVB) reveals a novel role for neutrophil integrin α9 ITGA9 in sensorimotor and cognitive recovery after SAH.

We found that targeting ITGA9, which is expressed on neutrophils, significantly reduces inflammation and neuronal apoptosis. This leads to improved long-term outcomes after SAH.

Huge congratulations to the first author, Harpreet Kaur, Ph.D. for her outstanding work and dedication to this project! Her dedication was instrumental in the success of this study.

Special thanks to all the co-authors Arif Yurdagul Oren Rom, PhD, RD Wayne Orr Mohammad Alfrad Nobel Bhuiyan, PhD Rajesh Mohandas Ajit Vikram Kevin Murnane Xiao-Hong Lu for their invaluable support and collaborative spirit. This was a true team effort! LSU Health Shreveport”
