Peter Verhamme on Genetic Predisposition to Thromboembolism and COVID

Peter Verhamme, Associate Professor at KU Leuven, shared on LinkedIn:

”A paper with a story, published today in Nature Cardiovascular Research with Art Schuermans, Andreas Verstraete, Jef Van den Eynde, Kathleen Freson, Thomas Vanassche.

Using multiple international cohorts, we show that genetic predisposition to thromboembolism is associated with the development of long COVID.

The road to publication wasn’t straightforward.

During revision, we identified an error, withdrew the original submission and preprint, and went back to the data.

After re-running and stress-testing the analyses, the paper emerged stronger — a journey that underscored perseverance, openness and scientific integrity — with special kudos to Art.”
