Rahmathullah S.N.: Key Takeaways on Successful Surgical Outcomes in Patients with Congenital Bleeding Disorders
Rahmathullah S.N., Clinical Pharmacist at IQRAA International Hospital and Research Centre, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Indian Journal of Hematology and Blood Transfusion, adding:
”Delighted to share our latest publication in the Indian Journal of Hematology and Blood Transfusion (Springer) titled ‘Achieving Successful Surgical Outcomes in Patients with Congenital Bleeding Disorders: Experience from a Resource-Limited Setting.’
This work details a retrospective study of surgical procedures in patients with congenital bleeding disorders, such as Hemophilia, at a tertiary care center in South India.
Key takeaways include:
- Individualized perioperative planning enables patients with Hemophilia and other clotting factor deficiencies to safely undergo invasive surgeries.
- In Hemophilia A, Emicizumab prophylaxis significantly reduced the requirements for factor VIII and bypassing agents during surgery.
- Success in resource-limited settings depends on multidisciplinary coordination and pragmatic resource utilization.
I am deeply grateful to my mentor, senior hemato-oncologist Dr. Raghuveer Prabhu, whose guidance was crucial to this study, and to Dr. Javed Ahammad, for his dedicated expertise.
Thanks also to my co-author Dr. Henna Pokka and the entire clinical team at IQRAA International Hospital and Research Centre for their commitment to patient care.
We hope this work adds to the evidence base from India and supports clinicians facing similar challenges in resource-constrained environments globally.”
