A systematic review and Meta-Analysis of 5 studies (n=959 patients) compared direct-acting oral anticoagulants (DOACs) vs. vitamin K antagonists (VKAs) in kidney transplant recipients (KTRs).
Key findings:
- DOACs reduced major bleeding
- DOACs lowered mortality
- No significant difference in VTE risk, in graft failure and kidney function (eGFR)
Conclusion: DOACs may be an effective anticoagulation strategy in KTRs, offering reduced bleeding and mortality compared with VKAs, though evidence quality remains low-to-moderate.”
