Marilena Vrana: Can Public-only Blood Collection Systems Meet the Growing Patient Need for PDMs?
Marilena Vrana, Vice President at the Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) Europe, shared on LinkedIn:
”Can public-only blood collection systems meet the growing patient need for plasma-derived medicines?
A recurring question and one that always sparks dynamic discussion.
This is how I spent my work anniversary marking 3 exciting years at PPTA Europe: speaking at ARMONIA’s 1st Conference on Primary Immunodeficiencies in Athens, in my home country, Greece.
The debate was lively, with some opposing views on the value of public–private coexistence, safety perceptions, the true scale of patient need, and how healthcare systems can sustainably meet rising demand.
What became clear once again is that national and European resilience can only be built through collaboration and shared responsibility.
No single actor, no single system, and no single country can meet this challenge alone.
Let’s keep the conversation constructive, fact-based and centred on patients.
Let’s work together toward a more resilient European plasma ecosystem.
In true “Armonia”, all actors working in harmony can drive Europe toward genuine open strategic autonomy an plasma self-sufficiency.
Together, we can meet growing patient needs while upholding the highest standards of safety for donors and patients.”
