Leonardo Roever: CHR as a Composite Biomarker for Stroke Risk Stratification
Leonardo Roever, CEO of Brazilian Evidence-Based Health Network, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Wei Huang et al, published in Lipids in Health and Disease:
”Association of C-reactive protein/HDL cholesterol ratio with stroke in Chinese adults with different glycemic levels
Stroke is one of the major public health problems in China, highlighting the need for accessible biomarkers to aid in risk stratification.
The C-reactive protein/HDL cholesterol (CHR) ratio, which integrates inflammatory and lipid pathways, has emerged as a new composite biomarker.
Higher CHR levels were associated with an increased risk of stroke in Chinese adults, with heterogeneity between different glycemic levels, showing stronger and nonlinear (J-shaped) associations in individuals with normal blood glucose than in individuals with diabetes.
CHR has demonstrated limited discriminatory ability for stroke, suggesting that its usefulness may lie in risk stratification rather than isolated prediction.
