”Secondary prevention remains one of the most important opportunities to reduce long term disability after ischemic stroke.
A recent review in the New England Journal of Medicine emphasizes that lowering recurrence risk depends on identifying the underlying stroke mechanism and aggressively targeting modifiable risk factors early.
Effective care extends beyond the acute event.
Early diagnostic evaluation, timely initiation of preventive therapies, and ongoing monitoring of blood pressure, rhythm disorders, lifestyle factors, and medication adherence are central to reducing recurrent stroke risk.
The focus is increasingly shifting toward structured longitudinal care, combining mechanism specific treatment with continuous risk assessment to improve outcomes after stroke.”
