Darine Ghanem: Women with Bleeding Disorders Deserve Equal Visibility
Darine Ghanem, Commercialisation Excellence Lead for Non Malignant Hemathology at Roche, shared on LinkedIn:
”On International Women’s Day: Listening to Women with Bleeding Disorders
Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the achievements, leadership, and resilience of women around the world.
But it is also a moment to reflect on the gaps that still exist, especially in health.
For many women living with bleeding disorders, the journey to diagnosis and proper care is still far too long.
Conditions such as Hemophilia and Von Willebrand Disease have historically been perceived as affecting mainly men. As a result, countless women and girls remain undiagnosed, misdiagnosed, or undertreated.
Too many grow up believing that heavy bleeding, painful periods, or complications during childbirth are simply something they must endure.
The reality is that these experiences may be signs of an underlying condition that deserves recognition, understanding, and care.
The unmet need is not only clinical, it is also about awareness, education, and equity in research and healthcare.
Women with bleeding disorders deserve timely diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and the same visibility that others have fought hard to achieve.
Personally, I believe that how we care for and listen to women says a great deal about the kind of society we are building.
When women are heard, supported, and empowered, they strengthen families, communities, and entire health systems.
Empathy is not a ‘soft’ value, it is the foundation of strong and resilient societies.
Today, and every day, let’s continue working toward a world where women’s health is fully recognized, understood, and prioritized.”
