Paul Bolaji: We Developed REACT Criteria for Post-Stroke Recrudescence or The ”Decompensated Stroke”
Paul Bolaji, Education Lead (Stroke Services) at Dorset County Hospital NHS Foundation Trust, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, adding:
”Delighted to share that our poster:
‘Post-Stroke Recrudescence: The REACT Criteria – A Conceptual Framework for Diagnosing a Commonly Misunderstood Condition in Clinical Practice’ (Bolaji P and Hayes A) has been accepted and entered into Abstract competition at the RCP Medicine 2026 Conference.
Post-stroke recrudescence is often labelled in practice as ‘decompensated stroke’ yet remains poorly defined and frequently misdiagnosed.
To address this, we developed the REACT Criteria – a structured, clinically applicable framework to support bedside diagnosis.
To the best of our knowledge, this represents the first acronym-based conceptual diagnostic framework for this often overlooked condition.
Excited to contribute to improving clarity in stroke care and looking forward to the discussions ahead.”
