”In continued celebration of Blood’s 80th anniversary, we’re excited to introduce you to the 11th Editor-in-Chief, Dr. Bob Löwenberg.
Bob Löwenberg, MD, PhD, is a Principal Investigator and Professor of Hematology in the Department of Hematology at the Erasmus MC, where he has worked since 1990.
From 1982-1990, dr. Löwenberg was Director of Research at Daniel den Hoed Cancer Center in Rotterdam, Netherlands and from 1983-1986, he was a Visiting Professor at Free University Brussel.
From 1990-2011, he served as the Chairman of the Department of Hematology at Erasmus University Medical Center.
Dr. Löwenberg was one of the founders of European Hematology Association (EHA) and has served as President.
He has also been President of the International Society of Experimental Hematology and the International Society of Hematology and is a past Chairman of the Scientific Advisory Board.
He also founded and served as the first President of the Dutch-Belgian Cooperative Group on Hemato-Oncology in Adults.
Serving as Editor-in-Chief of Blood from 2013-2019, he was quoted in 2016 saying,
‘Blood has been a crucial and loyal partner for successive generations of hematologists.The Journal has faithfully reported the profound changes in clinical practice and biologic concepts that have revolutionized hematology during the last 70 years, and my goal – and the goal of our terrific team of colleague-editors and dedicated staff – is to continue to keep the needs of our current readership in mind.It is an honor to be the guardian of the Journal during this anniversary, and to be trusted to uphold the standards that our predecessors have established.’
Dr. Lowenberg remains a close friend of American Society of Hematology, and we’re grateful for all he’s contributed to Blood and the field of hematology overall.
