A 100-Study Systematic Review Reevaluates PT and aPTT Testing in Perioperative Bleeding – JTH
Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared on LinkedIn about a recent article by Hassan Rahhal et al, adding:
”Assessing Preoperative Bleeding Risk Using International Normalized Ratio and Activated Partial Thromboplastin Time: A Systematic Review
This 100-study systematic review demonstrates that routine preoperative PT and APTT testing shows weak and inconsistent association with perioperative bleeding across nearly all elective surgical settings, supporting a risk-stratified approach – with the notable exception of patients with advanced liver disease undergoing major abdominal surgery.”
