Jeff Sternlicht: Normal LDL Does Not Always Mean Low Risk
Jeff Sternlicht, Emergency Physician and Medical Director at Vituity, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Your LDL can be ‘normal’… and your risk can still be high.
Because LDL doesn’t tell you everything.
LDL measures how much cholesterol is being carried.
ApoB measures how many particles are carrying it.
And it’s the particles that matter.
They enter the artery wall.
They drive plaque formation.
Two people can have the same LDL…
…and very different ApoB.
Very different risk.
ApoB captures all atherogenic particles, including LDL, VLDL, remnants, and lipoprotein(a).
One of those, lipoprotein(a), is genetically determined and often never checked.
If you don’t know your ApoB and your Lp(a), you don’t fully know your risk.
