Maxime Dely on Why Ethical Blood Donation Matters
Maxime Dely, Sales and Application Specialist in Therapeutic Apheresis and Cell Therapy, has shared a post on Linkedin:
“Ethical Blood Donation vs. Economic Pressure
Isn’t it time we brought voluntary donation back to the center of the conversation?
In France, our transfusion model is built on a strong foundation: voluntary, anonymous, and unpaid donation.
A globally recognized ethical stance that puts solidarity above profit. But this model is under pressure.
The demand for blood products — especially plasma-derived medicines — is soaring. Some countries turn to commercial suppliers abroad. And the question arises: why not pay donors to meet demand? But what do we risk losing?
Trust. Between the donor and society. Between the patient and the healthcare system.
The day donation becomes a transaction, it loses part of its human value.
To protect this model, we need more than good intentions. We must adapt it to the times:
- Modernize our communication,
- Rethink social marketing,
- Speak to a new generation of donors, with their codes, values, and expectations.
Ethical donation is sustainable — if we give it the means to remain so.
This deserves more than a financial decision. It deserves a real public debate.”
