Can GDF-15 Predict Bleeding Risk in VTE? – JTH

Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Timothy Hoberstorfer et al., adding:

“Growth differentiation factor-15 and bleeding risk in patients with venous thromboembolism

Growth differentiation factor-15 has been proposed as a marker of bleeding risk, but it did not deliver here.

In patients anticoagulated for acute venous thromboembolism, GDF-15 levels showed no association with clinically relevant bleeding and added nothing to existing bleeding prediction.

The result argues against using this biomarker to guide anticoagulation decisions in VTE.”
