Melissa Hollo: Postpartum Depression is More Than the “Baby Blues”
Melissa Hollo, Director of Project Management at hc1 and Licensed Independent Clinical Social Worker, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Postpartum depression is more than the ‘baby blues.’
It can include persistent sadness, anxiety, irritability, overwhelming guilt, loss of interest, difficulty bonding with the baby, changes in sleep or appetite, hopelessness, or feeling unable to cope.
And in more severe cases, postpartum psychosis can occur; an emergency that may involve confusion, paranoia, hallucinations, or a loss of connection with reality.
But what if we could identify risk before a crisis occurs?
That’s where technology can play an important role.
HerCare goes beyond identifying physical risks during pregnancy. Its risk identification capabilities include a focus on mental health, helping providers recognize patients who may be at increased risk for postpartum depression and other serious mental health concerns.
The goal isn’t to diagnose. It’s to identify risk earlier, create awareness, and give care teams an opportunity to intervene sooner.
Because maternal health isn’t just about a healthy pregnancy and delivery. It’s about the mother’s health before, during, and after pregnancy.
Early identification can change the trajectory for both mother and baby.”
