Patrick Badertscher, Privat-Docent (PD) in Cardiology at University of Basel, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Laurent Roten et al., published in JAMA, adding:

“Exited to share PIFPAF-PFA.

Today, the PIFPAF-PFA randomized trial was presented as a Late-Breaking Clinical Trial at ESC Congress 2026 and simultaneously published in JAMA

We asked: In persistent AF, should posterior wall isolation be added to PVI when using pulsed-field ablation?

PVI and PWI did not significantly improve freedom from atrial tachyarrhythmia compared with PVI alone.

However, continuous rhythm monitoring showed lower arrhythmia burden and fewer longer-lasting episodes with PWI.

Our findings challenge us to look beyond the traditional greater-than-30-second recurrence endpoint when assessing AF ablation outcomes.
