Abdelaziz Fahem: HLH in the GCC – A New Regional Consensus for Diagnosis and Management

Abdelaziz Fahem, Vice President of Medical Affairs and Clinical Research at Hemara Bio, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Mohamed A. Yasin, published in Frontiers in Immunology, adding:

“HLH in the GCC finally has a consensus.

Our paper, ‘Consensus recommendations for the diagnosis and management of hemophagocytic lymphohistiocytosis in the Gulf Cooperation Council: a modified Delphi approach,’ has just been published in Frontiers in Immunology.

This is a significant publication for the HLH community in the Gulf.

HLH is a rare and life-threatening hyperinflammatory syndrome where delayed recognition or inappropriate management can have serious consequences. Until now, there has been a need for region-specific recommendations reflecting the clinical realities and expertise of the GCC.

This consensus brings together 15 experts from all six GCC countries, using a structured modified Delphi process to develop recommendations covering key aspects of HLH diagnosis and management.

Publishing this work in Frontiers in Immunology, a well-established international immunology journal with an Impact Factor of 7.0, gives these GCC recommendations a much broader scientific platform and visibility.

A special thank you to Dr Hind Salama and Pr Mohamed Yassin, who led this important initiative, and to all the experts who contributed their time, experience and scientific input.
