Vincent Lu: Beyond PT and aPTT – How Hemostasis Evolves Across a Lifetime
Vincent Lu, PHD Student at RMIT University, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis, adding:
“I am pleased to share our new original article, ‘Age-related Global Coagulation Changes: From Neonate to Old Age’, now published in Seminars in Thrombosis and Hemostasis!
Traditional coagulation assays such as PT and aPTT capture only a small proportion of thrombin formation and have limited utility for stratifying thrombosis and bleeding risk.
We evaluated 546 plasma samples from healthy participants, ranging from neonates to 79-year-olds using global coagulation assays (thrombin generation, modified overall haemostatic potential, and plasmin generation) to map how haemostasis changes with age, providing essential normative data to support age- and sex-adjusted interpretations of global coagulation assays.”
