James Knowles: Exploring Plasma Manufacturing and Strengthening Industry Collaboration
James Knowles, Vice President, Global Regulatory Policy and Scientific Affairs at Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Big thanks for Walter Kelley and others at Takeda PDT business unit and BioLife Plasma Services invitation to attend the Takeda facility tour at their test lab and manufacturing plant just outside Atlanta, GA. I will never turn down an opportunity to go back inside these unique manufacturing facilities throughout the world to be refreshed on the complex and highly regulated process to guarantee safety during the production of the medicines for our patients.
Really enjoyed the presentation by Marla C. Troughton about our industry, highlighting differences and similarities between the transfusion and plasma world and thank you for the many times you included Plasma Protein Therapeutics Association (PPTA) in your talk and I was happy to interject. It highlights the strong relationship between our industry association and company members.
And speaking of associations, now it’s time to turn my attention to the 2026 AABB meeting, here in Atlanta, where I will be attending several AABB committee meetings that I am part of and presenting to the attendees in a joint session with AABB staff that will highlight how blood banks can get involved in the supply of recovered plasma, and explaining what the PDT industry does with that plasma, including the medicines made and patient groups we serve.”
