Sanjiv Beri: Blood Type Compatibility and the Balance of Giving and Receiving
Sanjiv Beri, Healthspan Strategist-Mentor, Trainer and Speaker at S.Beri, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I have written my blood type on more forms than I can count and never once asked what it was built to do.
It looks like a label.
It is closer to a rule for what your body accepts and what it attacks.
Every red blood cell wears markers on its surface.
The A antigen, the B antigen, the Rh D antigen.
Your immune system reads those markers all day.
Your plasma carries anti-A and anti-B antibodies against any marker you do not have.
Meet the wrong blood and the red cells clump and break apart.
The immune system is doing exactly what it was built to do.
O negative wears none of the markers, so there is nothing to trigger a reaction.
It can give to all eight types.
It can receive from one. Its own.
AB positive runs the other way. It receives from all eight and gives to one.
I read the other half of the chart slowly. The universal donor has the shortest list of people who can give back.
When you are the one everyone calls, you absorb the room and say ‘I’m fine, just tired.’
The world calls it generosity. Your body keeps a longer record of what it cost.
Build a short list of people who can give back, and let them.”
