Alan Nurden: From Early Discoveries to New Therapeutic Advances in von Willebrand Disease
Alan Nurden, Emeritus Research Director at CNRS, Co-Founder of the French National Reference Centre for Inherited Platelet Disorders (CRPP), shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Caterina Casari et al, published in Haematologica:
“This is an excellent review of von Willebrand disease and its therapeutic landscape by three respected experts. It begins with the history of early discoveries and ends with an assessment of the range of new therapeutic advances that offer much hope for a sustainable prophylaxis that will greatly enhance the quality of life of patients.
For me, it is good to see highlighted such pioneers as Judith Poole (Stanford Univ, USA), Theodore Zimmerman (Scripps Clinic, USA), Birger and Margareta Blomback (Karolinska Institute, Sweden), Pïer Mannuccio Mannucci (Milan, Italy) happily still active, and the sadly missed J Evan Saddler (St. Louis, USA); and which extends through to a new generation such as Cécile Denis and Peter Lenting from France to name but two.
This review is highly recommended.”
