Andrea Van Beek: We Raise Awareness About Blood Clot Prevention and Treatment
Andrea Van Beek, Board of Directors of Anticoagulation Forum, National Certification Board for Anticoagulation Providers, shared on LinkedIn:
“It’s World Thrombosis Day aka the “Super Bowl” for all of us Anticoagulation and Thrombosis folks
Today, we raise awareness about blood clot prevention and treatment, so we can have more Red Shirt “Survivors” and hopefully even more people who get to wear the prevention shirt, because they prevented the clot before it could happen!
How can you get involved?!
-Know and share with family and friends what are risk factors for blood clots: hospital stays, sedentary states, cancer, pregnancy, etc…
-Know the symptoms: swelling, redness, pain, heat of a limb. Shortness of breath, chest pain, coughing up blood, racing of the heart.
-Know what to do: get to your medical provider if symptoms are mild. For severe symptoms, go to the nearest ER
-PRO TIP: 1/2 of all patients with blood clots have 3 or more visits to medical care before they are finally diagnosed. Shorten this timeframe: tell your medical provider “I think I have a blood clot”
Together: We are changing lives by preventing and creating rapid access treatment protocols for VTE patients. Speaking of that last part…stay tuned! ”
