Arun V J: A Love Letter to Transfusion Medicine Through Greek Mythology
Arun V. J., The Leader of Transfusion Medicine at Malabar Medical College, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“I wrote a Greek mythological fiction as my love letter to Transfusion Medicine. And it’s free to read.
It’s called The Promise of Asclepius the god whose symbol is on your white coat. Zeus killed him, not for doing something wrong, but for doing medicine too well.
In my version, Asclepius performed a blood transfusion. That’s the crime that got him killed. The gods buried the discovery to keep their books balanced because a species that can give blood to a stranger no longer needs them to decide who lives.
The rest is what happened after. Blundell in London. Denis in Paris. Charles Drew, who built the modern blood banking system and was thrown out of it for the colour of his skin. The first blood bank an ammunition box packed with ice, in French mud, 1917. A donation camp in Kerala.
All of it real. The Titan watching from the corner is the only thing I invented.
It’s free to read.
Click and it will open on your device to read (FREE).”
