Aswin K. Mohan: When a Superpower Hears the Call for Blood

Aswin K. Mohan, Medicine Specialist at AIIMS Bibinagar, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“When a superpower meets a real-world need

I recently had the opportunity to collaborate with the team of ‘It’s a Medical Miracle’ (a superhero movie in the Malayalam film industry, India) for a small initiative promoting voluntary, non-remunerated blood donation.

The film’s protagonist develops an unusual ability after an accident — he can hear sounds from extraordinary distances.

That gave us a simple idea:

What if he could hear the calls for blood that most of us never hear?

In our comic adaptation, he hears those calls — patients and families searching for blood — and does something decidedly ordinary rather than supernatural: he calls his friends and asks them to donate.

Because in real life, we don’t need a special ability to make a difference.

Every day, somewhere, someone needs blood. We may never hear their call or know their name, but a voluntary blood donor can still be there for them.

This collaboration was an attempt to bring cinema, storytelling and transfusion medicine together to communicate that message to a wider audience.

You may not hear every call for blood. But you can still answer one.

Visit your nearest blood centre. Donate voluntarily.”
