Gevorg Yaghjyan: Overview of the Rapidly Evolving Landscape of SLE at the 6th International Yale Rheumatology Symposium
Gevorg Yaghjyan, Project Leader at Parexel, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Attended the 6th International Yale Rheumatology Symposium: Future Directions in Lupus at Yale.
The program provided an excellent and timely overview of the rapidly evolving landscape of systemic lupus erythematosus, covering new therapeutic approaches, lupus nephritis management, emerging clinical trials, and innovative strategies such as targeted biologics and cellular therapies.
A strong emphasis was placed on how advances in immunology and translational research are shaping the future of lupus drug development, creating new opportunities for more precise, effective, and patient-centered treatments.
The history of lupus drug development begins with better diagnosis. One important figure was George J. Friou, a Yale-trained physician–scientist who helped establish fluorescent antibody testing for antinuclear antibodies (ANA).
His work in the 1950s helped transform lupus from a poorly understood clinical syndrome into a measurable autoimmune disease. Today, ANA testing remains central to lupus diagnosis, patient selection, and the design of modern lupus clinical trials.”
