Gopal Patidar: ISBT Addresses Common Misconceptions About Transfusion Reactions
Gopal Patidar, Chairperson at Haemovigilance Working Party, International Society of Blood Transfusion, Associate Professor at AIIMS, shared International Society of Blood Transfusion’s post on LinkedIn:
“Haemovigilance Awareness Series | ISBT Haemovigilance Working Party
Another awareness initiative by the International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) Haemovigilance Working Party, aimed at addressing common misconceptions and highlighting the facts surrounding the four key pillars of haemovigilance:
- Recognize
- Respond
- Report
- Learn
This post focuses on Recognizing Adverse Transfusion Reactions (ATRs), highlighting common myths versus facts and reinforcing the importance of early identification for safer transfusion practices.
Recognizing an adverse transfusion reaction is the first critical step towards improving transfusion safety and preventing avoidable harm.
Stay tuned!
Three more posts in this awareness series will follow, exploring the remaining pillars of haemovigilance.
Recognize. Respond. Report. Learn.
Together, let’s strengthen transfusion safety worldwide.”
International Society of Blood Transfusion (ISBT) shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Common misconceptions about haemovigilance and adverse transfusion reactions: Part 1 of 4, Recognize.
Not every transfusion reaction is haemolytic.
Not every case of dyspnoea is TRALI.
And hypotension doesn’t always mean anaphylaxis.
Swipe through to separate the myths from the facts.
The key message: any symptom – assess promptly.
Do not assume the diagnosis.
This is part of the ISBT Haemovigilance Working Party’s monthly education and awareness campaign.
Over this four-part series we’ll cover Recognize, Respond, Report and Learn.
Save this post and share it with colleagues involved in transfusion practice.”
