Isaac Okello: A Unified Voice for Sickle Cell Disease in Uganda
Isaac Okello, Global Genes Leadership Council Member, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“As we continue to strengthen and coordinate collective efforts in the fight against sickle cell disease in Uganda, I had the privilege of sharing the impactful work being implemented by Raising Hope International Friends (RHIF), with support from the Novo Nordisk Haemophilia & Haemoglobinopathies Foundation, CONSA Andrew Zapfel and other valued partners.
I highlighted key achievements in community awareness, screening, healthcare worker capacity building, newborn screening, linkage to care, and advocacy efforts that are improving the lives of individuals and families affected by sickle cell disease across Uganda.
I also took this golden opportunity to officially announce the formation of the Sickle Cell Alliance Uganda (SCAU), a national umbrella body for all sickle cell organizations, advocates, caregivers, researchers, healthcare professionals, and people living with sickle cell disease.
The Alliance represents a shared commitment to amplifying one voice, strengthening collaboration, mobilizing resources, and advancing policies and programs that improve the quality of life for everyone affected by sickle cell disease.”
