“Could the gut microbiome be one of the most important—and most overlooked—factors influencing outcomes in hematology?
In our latest ASH Clinical News guest commentary, Dr. Urvi Shah and I explore the growing evidence that the gut microbiome plays a critical role in allogeneic stem cell transplantation and CAR T-cell therapy.
Emerging data suggest that microbial diversity, short-chain fatty acids, bile acid metabolism, dietary patterns, and even antibiotic exposure can influence treatment response, toxicity, graft-versus-host disease, and survival.
As hematologists, we meticulously optimize conditioning regimens, chemotherapy dosing, and supportive care. It may be time to bring microbiome health into that same conversation.
