Maia Meier: 111 Kilometres on Skis to the South Pole

Maia Meier, Clinical Exercise Physiologist at Maia Letitia Fitness, shared a post on LinkedIn:

“111 kilometres. On skis. To the bottom of the world.

After climbing Mount Vinson, my Antarctic expedition continues with a completely different challenge: skiing the Last Degree to the Geographic South Pole.

Starting at 89 degree South, I’ll spend days crossing the Antarctic plateau, hauling a loaded sled with everything needed to survive along the way.

No roads.

No trails. No chairlifts. Just endless ice, extreme cold, and the physical and mental challenge of moving forward, one kilometre at a time.

And the destination? 90° South. The southernmost point on Earth, where every direction is north.

This journey is another step toward my goal of completing the Seven Summits across both lists and skiing the Last Degree to the South Pole.

But through Project Elevate Her, every expedition also carries a much bigger purpose: raising awareness and advocating for earlier diagnosis and equitable access to care for women and girls with bleeding disorders worldwide.

Because no woman or girl should have to fight to be heard or go without the care she deserves.

Swipe through to discover what it really takes to ski to the South Pole.”
