Mapillar Dahn: Empowering Sickle Cell Warriors Through Awareness and Support
Mapillar Dahn, Founder and Executive Director of MTS Sickle Cell Foundation INC, shared a post on LinkedIn:
“Sickle cell disease is an inherited blood disorder that affects hemoglobin, the protein in red blood cells that carries oxygen throughout the body.
In sickle cell disease, some red blood cells can become hard, sticky, and shaped like a crescent or ‘sickle.’
These cells can block blood flow, leading to pain, anemia, fatigue, infections, and serious complications.
Sickle cell disease is lifelong, but with education, quality care, support, and access to treatment, warriors can live fuller, healthier lives.
Awareness matters because understanding sickle cell can help reduce stigma, improve care, and save lives.
