Abnormal Uterine Bleeding

What is abnormal uterine bleeding?

This is non-gestational (non-pregnancy related bleeding) from the cervical canal that is either abnormal in frequency, duration, regularity or Flow.

The FIGO system using Abnormal Uterine Bleeding (AUB) classification 1 to characterise the normal or abnormal menstrual patterns.

How common is it?

3-30% of women are affected.

When should one seek care?

There are different causes or contributors to AUB FIGO accronym of PALM COEIN (structural: polyps, adenomyosis, leiomyoma/fibroids, Malignancy and non-structural: coagulopathy, ovarian, endometrial, iatrogenic – caused by treatment such as coagulotherapy, not otherwise classified)”
