Rashad Falah: Evaluating Long Term Outcomes and Transfusion Risks in Obscure Gastrointestinal Bleeding

Rashad Falah, Medical Doctor at Rambam Health Care Campus, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleague co-authored, published in BMC Gastroenterology, adding:

“In our new publication in BMC Gastroenterology (as an equally contributing author), we evaluated long term hematologic outcomes following double balloon enteroscopy (DBE) in patients with obscure gastrointestinal bleeding.

Our study showed that while hemoglobin levels improved overall after DBE, patients requiring therapeutic intervention represented a higher risk subgroup with more severe baseline anemia and persistent transfusion needs despite endoscopic therapy.

These findings support the need for combined endoscopic and adjunctive medical therapy in complex small bowel bleeding.”
