Sonal Sonu: A Compatible Crossmatch Does Not Guarantee Transfusion Safety
Sonal Sonu, Transfusion Medicine Specialist, posted on LinkedIn:
“A compatible crossmatch confirms serological compatibility at the time of testing – not absolute transfusion safety.
Evanescent alloantibodies and anamnestic immune responses can still result in delayed hemolytic transfusion reactions.
Safe transfusion is not just about reports.
It requires patient history, clinical context, and vigilance.
Transfusion medicine is clinical judgment – not a checkbox.”
