Wolfgang Miesbach։ Highlighting the Social and Psychological Impact of Factor VII Deficiency
Wolfgang Miesbach, Professor of Medicine at Frankfurt University Hospital, shared a post on LinkedIn:
”Living with rare bleeding disorders often means living with uncertainty – and the poster ‘Living with Factor VII deficiency: Data from the FVIID 360 study‘ at EAHAD 2026 makes that reality visible.
Kate Khair, together with Simon Fletcher, Matthew Boyton and Michael Holland, led the FVIID 360 project, which captured detailed data from 100 people with FVII deficiency using validated bleeding assessment tools and QoL measures. Their results show frequent mucosal and joint bleeds, heavier menstrual bleeding in women, under‑use of prophylaxis and clear links between higher bleed rates and worse self‑reported well‑being.
What stands out is how strongly patients describe the social and psychological impact: lost work or education, limits on physical activity, pain, and feelings of isolation, even when factor levels appear ‘mild.’ These insights underline the need for individualized prophylaxis and for future therapies to target not just clotting times but everyday life with FVII deficiency.
Huge congratulations to Kate Khair and colleagues for bringing this under‑represented community into the spotlight and for having this scientific work ranked among the top posters at EAHAD 2026.”
