John Strouse: Grateful for ASH’s Support and for the Privilege of Working with Charity Oyedeji
John Strouse, Associate Professor of Medicine at Duke University Medical Center, shared on LinkedIn:
“I am glad that ASH exists to support researchers through this time of unprecedented disruption to research and the healthcare in the United States and that I have the privilege of working with Charity Oyedeji!”
Quoting American Society of Hematology’s post:
“This past summer, the National Institutes of Health cut funding for a sickle cell disease initiative led by Charity Oyedeji, before it was complete. The Sickle Cell Disease (SCD) Functional Assessment Validation and Refinement (SILVR) Study and the SickleFit Exercise Program were focusing on physical capabilities and independence for patients with SCD. Beyond disrupting patient care, such funding cuts may also discourage researchers, particularly those from underrepresented backgrounds, from pursuing vital work in hematology and SCD research.
