Akshat Jain: Sickle Cell Disease Is Not One Size Fits All
Akshat Jain, Hematology Pediatric Workforce Task Force at American Society of Hematology, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he authored, published in Blood Global Hematology, adding:
“I’m pleased to share my new publication, ‘Sickle Cell Disease: from Genomic Epidemiology to Novel Therapeutics,’ now available in Blood Journals Portfolio GlobalHematology. Published during Sickle Cell Awareness Month.
This publication explores the continuum from genomic epidemiology to emerging therapeutics and underscores a central message: the future of sickle cell disease care must be precise, innovative, patient-centered, and equitable.
Asian sickle cell is different than African and that of Middle eastern geno and phenotype. It’s not one size fits all and that needs to be reflected in therapy.
Advances in genomic epidemiology are improving our understanding of disease burden, genetic modifiers, and variation in clinical outcomes across populations. At the same time, therapeutic innovation—from disease-modifying treatments to curative-intent cell and gene-based approaches—is reshaping what may be possible for individuals and families affected by SCD.
I am grateful to the patients, families, advocates, clinicians, researchers, and global partners whose voices and efforts continue to move the field forward.”
