This study highlights the burden, prevalence, and implications of RhD alloimmunization and hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) in Africa, emphasizing the urgent need for improved screening, prevention strategies, and equitable access to anti-D prophylaxis across the region. We hope these findings will contribute to evidence-based policy, clinical practice, and future research aimed at improving maternal and neonatal outcomes.
Grateful to my amazing promoters and collaborators: Prof. Ellen van der Schoot, Prof. Thomas van den Akker, Dr. Joanne Verweij, Dr. Abera Kenay Tura, and Dr. Tadesse Gure — thank you for your mentorship and support.
Steven Spitalnik, Henk Schonewille Elmira van Galen.”
