Hazem Abosheaishaa: Beta-Blocker Selection Matters – Multi-Institutional Cohort Insights on PVT and Survival in Cirrhosis

“New study by the team GiResearchClub in Liver International:
Portal Vein Thrombosis Risk in Cirrhotic Patients With Portal Hypertension on Beta-Blockers: A Multi-Institutional Cohort Study Do all nonselective β-blockers carry the same risk in cirrhosis?
In our large multi-institutional cohort:
- Propranolol – high portal vein thrombosis risk
- Carvedilol – no increased PVT risk
- Carvedilol – improved survival
These findings highlight that β-blocker selection may meaningfully influence outcomes in cirrhosis.”
