Iftikhar Khan: What Is the Optimal Antithrombotic Strategy After Left Atrial Appendage Closure?

Iftikhar Khan, Research Writer at Consentic, Peer Reviewer at Asian Journal of Psychiatry, SAGE Open Medical Case Reports, Antimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control, shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Journal of Thrombosis and Thrombolysis, adding:

New meta analysis published!

What’s the optimal antithrombotic strategy after left atrial appendage closure?

In the overall analysis, DOACs were associated with lower all-cause mortality, major bleeding, and device-related thrombosis.

The caveat matters: when we restricted the analysis to RCTs alone, none of these benefits reached significance. The signal was driven largely by observational data.

So, a promising direction, not a practice change. Adequately powered randomized trials are still needed.”
