Why is this important?
Deep vein thrombosis (DVT) is a major public health issue.
Pulmonary embolism, a serious complication of DVT, is the 3rd leading cause of cardiovascular mortality.
Despite therapeutic progress, venous thromboembolic disease is still associated with a poor prognosis and an increased risk of bleeding on anticoagulants
What is it about?
This review highlights the key role of the immune system in thrombus formation and resolution, suggesting that its modulation could offer a complementary therapeutic avenue
