Johannes Grillari: Post-Stroke Senescence May Be More Adaptive Than Previously Thought
Johannes Grillari, Director at Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Traumatology, The Research Center in Cooperation with AUVA, shared on LinkedIn about a recent article he and his colleagues co-authored, published in Ageing Research Reviews, adding:
”Happy to share a collaborative review on senescence in stroke that just went online at Ageing Research Reviews.
Thanks for this great collaboration to Xiaolong Liu, Yu Guo, Aurel Popa-Wagner, Ingo Lämmermann, and Dirk M. Hermann of University Clinics of Essen.
In this article, we suggest that senescence after stroke is not a simple on/off phenomenon.
Instead, we argue that post-stroke senescence exists on a spectrum, with many early changes reflecting adaptive stress responses rather than permanent cellular senescence.
This distinction matters: targeting harmful inflammatory signals may prove safer and more effective than eliminating cells, particularly in the critical early phases after stroke.”
