Platelets Show Distinct Molecular Changes in Active ITP – JTH

Journal of Thrombosis and Haemostasis (JTH) shared a post on LinkedIn about a recent article by Julia-Annabell Georgi et al., adding:

RNA sequencing indicates distinct platelet transcriptomic changes in immune thrombocytopenia

Platelets keep a working transcriptome despite lacking a nucleus, and in active immune thrombocytopenia that profile looked distinct.

RNA sequencing showed coordinated upregulation of platelet activation pathways, including integrin and calcium signaling and cytoskeletal remodeling, alongside reduced mitochondrial and oxidative phosphorylation genes.

This activation-primed, metabolically altered signature was unique to active ITP and partly normalized in treatment-free remission.”
